Bath and Vinalhaven — Fiber artist Kathleen Bird is deeply inspired by the natural environment without human artifacts. Much of the fiber used in Kathleen's rugs has come from Maine—and much of it from Long Cove Farm on Vinalhaven.

She speaks to the inspiration behind her moss series— “The dampness and mist contributes to the beautiful, lush green of the forest and it is magical on the island,” Bird says. Kathleen divides her time between her home in Bath, Maine and the family cottage on Vinalhaven. She has rug hooking frames set up in both places so there is a continuous flow of creative projects.
