Since its debut in 1984, Island Journal, the Island Institute's annual publication, has celebrated Maine's island and coastal communities through stories, art, poetry, and photography, illuminating that quality of "islandness" found not only in Maine, but also on islands around the world.
This year's journal "Making It Here" features stories about the joys, frustrations and compromises that allow islanders to live here year-round. Also featured is "Arctic Observations" a collection of photographs by Peter Ralston from his trip to the Arctic Circle and the high Canadian Arctic archipelago and much more! Collectible and produced to highest standards, Island Journal has earned a reputation for excellence over the last three decades by providing readers with colorful, thoughtful, and compelling stories and images from and about islands here in Maine, and beyond.
