Robin Rier
Jonesport - Robin Rier paints primarily en plein air using oils to document areas around her Jonesport, Maine studio known as Sweet Pear Studio. Her paintings are inspired by her admiration and respect for Maine’s fisheries.
“I live in Down East Maine near the ocean. I work on site, inspired by the many coastal off the beaten path vignettes. I also enjoy painting still life and from my own photographs.”
In this collection of paintings, Robin highlights Down East’s working waterfront buildings and wharves, some of which no longer exist due to the fierce January 2024 storms. This collection highlights the important presence of these structures in Maine’s coastal viewsheds particularly Down East, as well as to the regions’ economy and livelihoods.
“Since the renderings of these paintings there have been storms, in particular that of January 10th and again on the 13th, 2024, that have ravaged and undermined the shoreline. Wharves, lost sheds and mangled boats were among items destroyed. High tides, heavy rain and wind contributed to the devastation.”
