Aaron Staples
South Portland - Aaron Staples is a native of northern Maine. Growing up in a rural environment, he developed a deep affinity and fascination for nature that informs his art practice. His work is created using a brush and sumi ink on archival rag paper.
"The creation of my artwork is a meditative exercise in understanding the natural world. Each drawing is an expression of the complexity inherent in nature’s constructions. The liquid ink, delivered by the brush, is a record of my own unique physiology. As the ink flows into the paper it captures every breath, heartbeat, and nervous tremble my body makes. The chaos of my own physical being introduces unique variation into the subject matter as it develops. By shaping the flow of ink into lines, and allowing that line to inform the next, the subject develops organically, similar to how an organism grows. This ultimately produces a record of the subject’s creation within its visual form."
