Archipelago celebrates Spring in Maine with new gallery show, “Birds and Blooms”

Artists'reception to take place on Friday, June 2nd during Rockland’s First Friday Art Walk from 5 – 8

Join us for our spring gallery show, “Birds and Blooms” currently on display through July 1st. “Birds and Blooms” shares works of 5 local artists – each with unique perspectives of the birds and blooms that fascinate and engage us this time of year. Celebrate the coming of spring and summer with vibrant and varied work on display.

Join us in the gallery from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday June 2 for the opening reception to meet the artists and share good food, drink and conversations!

The featured artists include: Helene Farrar of Manchester, Jean Kigel of Waldoboro, Dylan Metrano of Bath, Linden O’Ryan of Thomaston, and Susan Sidwell of Union. A wide variety of mediums will be on exhibit from acrylic to encaustic paintings to papercuts.

Helene says of her work: “My landscape works are poetic interpretations of quiet and observed moments, often of seasonal transitions, in both abstract and formal representations. Both of these sensibilities develop for direct observations of being in the landscape.” Her bold and graceful encaustic pieces ranging from small to 4’ circular pieces, depict layers of blooms and foliage much like gardens full of vitality and layers. Jean Kigel engages viewers with her mastery of skills using traditional brushwork to bring watercolor to paper to depict the birds and blooms of Maine’s coast. “I cannot resist the absolute joy derived from flowers, twisted trees, sea fog and mountain peaks. Experiencing these things stuns me. I paint the wealth of nature.” Find Jean's work here.

Papercutting is the media of both Dylan Metrano and Susan Sidwell who use different approaches and scale to showcase their skills. Dylan’s pieces have a crisp modern feel and Susan’s work harkens to lush vignettes from another era. Find Dylan's work here and Susan's work here.
