Gayle J Fraas

Boothbay - Gayle Slade Design is GAYLE Fraas and Duncan SLADE. As artists, they have been working with fiber-reactive dyes on natural fiber fabrics for a long time. Most of our studio practice has resulted in dye painted and stitched textiles, essentially quilts, which explore the relationship of landscape and pattern. Their scarves are designed to satisfy the senses balancing the art of the hand with the seduction of color on great fabrics. Each is painted one at a time, with particular effects resulting from how the dyes are mixed and applied with a brush on wet fabric. Some colors migrate and create an outline, all have a soft watery appearance.
