The fern is carved out of a single block of mahogany and the cradle is black walnut and curly maple.

Although the fern sits in its cradle, it is carved in intricate detail on both sides. One would need to pick up this piece in order to see all of the intricacies. When you hold this piece in your hands and turn it over, you see the symmetry of its form, and feel how delicate and weightless it is.
